COURSE DESCRIPTION
This intensive and hands-on, one-day programme is designed for equine practitioners who want to advance their diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in sports medicine and rehabilitation with the world’s leading specialists, and apply these skills immediately in their daily clinical work.
With a strong emphasis on hands-on workshops and clinical panel discussions, this course provides a unique opportunity to learn and refine practical techniques under the guidance of international key opinion leaders in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation.
From ultrasound-guided joint injections, to objective portable gait analysis using Consteed’s revolutionary Smart Sneaker measuring ground reaction forces in real time, and the clinical application of modern rehabilitation modalities, each component of the programme is focused on delivering skills that can be implemented from day one after returning to practice.
Morning Lecture Sessions
The morning lecture sessions offer a concise, clinically focused overview of:
- Practical tips and techniques for ultrasound-guided injections
- New roles and applications of objective gait analysis
- Matching the most appropriate rehabilitation modalities with specific lesions
- Development of structured treatment plans and effective therapeutic monitoring
Clinical Case Panel Discussions
One of the highlights of the course is the Clinical Case Panel Discussions, where participants will engage directly with several world-leading specialists from diverse backgrounds.
These highly interactive sessions explore real-life clinical cases in an open and frank atmosphere, focusing on critical decision-making, treatment strategies, and optimisation of outcomes in everyday practice.
Afternoon Practical Sessions
The afternoon is dedicated to small-group practical sessions on live horses and high-fidelity anatomic replica simulators, ensuring a high level of individual hands-on participation and detailed instructor feedback.
Participants will rotate through the following stations:
- Ultrasound-guided cervical facet and hip joint injections
- Objective gait analysis in a clinical setting
- Hands-on use of key rehabilitation technologies, including laser therapy and ESWT

Erin Contino, MS, DVM, Dipl. ACVSMR, is an Associate Professor in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado. She graduated from CSU with a Master's in clinical sciences in 2009 and a veterinary degree in 2010. She then completed a one-year internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in California before returning to CSU for a three-year equine sports medicine and rehabilitation residency followed by a 1-year fellowship in equine musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr. Contino became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2014. Her clinical and research interests include equine musculoskeletal imaging, diagnostic analgesia, lameness, and poor performance in equine athletes. She's actively involved in the leadership of ACVSMR and AAEP and, in her spare time, enjoys competing in 3-day eventing.
More InfoFlorian Geburek is full professor of equine surgery at the University of Veterinary Medicine (TiHo) Hannover, Foundation in Germany and Head of the Department of Surgery and Orthopaedics of the Clinic for Horses. His main areas of interest are lameness, orthopaedic- and minimally invasive surgery and his fields of research include tendon disorders and objective gait analysis with instrumented hoof boots. He graduated from TiHo Hannover where he prepared his Dr. med. vet. - thesis at the Instutite for Pathology and undertook a residency in large animal surgery at the clinic for horses. He remained in Hannover as senior clinician and completed his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation thesis). From 2016 to 2019 he worked as senior clinician and senior lecturer at the Clinic for Horses, Department of Surgery, Justus-Liebig-University Gießen, Germany. Florian Geburek is Diplomate of the ECVS and the ECVSMR and national specialist (FTA) in equine surgery and orthopaedics. He regularly delivers presentations and training sessions at national and international conferences and workshops.
More InfoDr. Adair earned his D.V.M from Auburn University. After receiving his D.V.M., Dr. Adair spent two years in private equine practice and completed a surgery residency at the University of Tennessee. He is presently a Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville and is Director of the Equine Performance Medicine and Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Adair is board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a charter Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is also certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association and is a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner. Dr. Adair’s primary research areas include Equine Musculoskeletal conditions, Regenerative Medicine and Equine Rehabilitation.
