COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course covers how to use therapeutic exercise, including physiotherapy as the foundation of rehabilitation of the equine athlete and how the following therapeutic modalities can be used: Whole body vibration, aquatic therapy, esWt, radiofrequency therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, laser and pulsed electromagnetic therapy. On both afternoons a selection of these modalities will be demonstrated/discussed and strengthening exercises, manual treatment techniques, exercises to improve proprioception will be applied on clinical cases during the 7 hours of practical sessions.

The course fee includes lunches, coffee/tea breaks, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Interactive/Practical Sessions).   On the evening of the first day all attendees are invited to attend a Wine & Cheese Reception (included in the course fee) after which they can attend an informal dinner with the speakers (not included in course fees, venue to be advised). 

Dr. Adair earned his D.V.M from Auburn University. After receiving his D.V.M., Dr. Adair spent two years in private equine practice and completed a surgery residency at the University of Tennessee. He is presently a Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville and is Director of the Equine Performance Medicine and Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Adair is board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a charter Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is also certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association and is a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner. Dr. Adair’s primary research areas include Equine Musculoskeletal conditions, Regenerative Medicine and Equine Rehabilitation.

Dr. Emily Rose holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and is a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. Dr. Rose has been a Physical Therapists for over ten years and has practiced in many human settings including inpatient, subacute and outpatient care providing her with experience throughout the phases of tissue healing and rehabilitation through disease processes. Dr. Rose is faculty for the University of Tennessee Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner program and travels internationally teaching clinics and workshops. Dr. Rose is also an active rider herself and competes in Dressage. She has achieved her USDF Bronze Medal rider achievement award. Dr. Rose and her husband, Ryan Rose, own and operate Rose Horsemanship Center in Brooklyn, WI which is a full service training and rehabilitation facility.
