COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 1 ½-day practical course is suitable for veterinarians from mixed and equine practice who are keen to develop and update their knowledge and especially their practical skills on medical ultrasound of the following anatomic region: Abdomen – GI & non-GI organs (percutaneously & transrectally), thorax, eye, jugular vein etc.. The use of ultrasound for pleural drainage, for collecting biopsy samples and when working up foals will also be discussed.
The panel of internationally renowned speakers/instructors has a wealth of experience with medical ultrasound and will share common diagnostic pitfalls, erroneous image interpretations, practical tips and pearls of wisdom open and honestly with the attendees.
In the mornings the following topics will be covered in well-illustrated lectures and case presentations:
- Gastrointestinal Ultrasound incl. fast localised exam in horses with colic
- Ultrasound of non-GI Abdominal Organs
- Ultrasound-guided Biopsy Techniques
- Non-Cardiac Thoracic Ultrasound (incl. Pleural Drainage)
- Ocular Ultrasound
- Ultrasound Exam of the Foal
- Miscellaneous Medical Ultrasound – Thrombophlebitis, choke, transrectal ultrasound etc.
In the afternoons, 5 hours of practical sessions will give attendees plenty of opportunity to put theory into practice on live horses and equine specimens and to ask questions in small groups (2 – 4 attendees / ultrasound machine), all under the supervision of specialists. The following practical sessions will be covered during the course:
- Fast localised abdominal ultrasound in horses with colic
- The complete Abdominal Ultrasound Exam & Biopsy Techniques
- Thoracic Ultrasound
- US-guidance Training, Eye & Soft Tissues of Head/Neck
- Optional Individual Abdominal Ultrasound Recap
The course fee includes catered lunch, coffee/tea breaks, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Practical Sessions). Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.
