The registration deadline has been extended as this course will definitely take place!
This 2-day practical ultrasound course covers how to perform an ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen of dogs and cats with a specific and in-depth focus on the urinary and gastrointestinal tracts incl. pancreas. This course is aimed at small animal practitioners who already have experience with abdominal ultrasonography and who want to increase its use in their daily clinical work as part of the diagnostic work-up of routine and emergency patients.
Over the 2 days the normal ultrasonographic appearance of the urinary tract from the kidney to the urethra and of the gastrointestinal tract including the pancreas will be discussed, as well as the most commonly encountered pathologies and their ultrasonographic features. The following 6 hours of face-to-face lectures and extensive case-discussions will prepare the attendees well for the practical sessions:
- Ultrasonic Expedition: The Journey from Kidney to Urethra in Dogs & Cats
- Why is my dog/cat vomiting? The Stomach, Duodenum & Pancreas
- Ultrasound of the Pancreas – anything new, and do we dare to poke?
- Gastrointestinal Ultrasound – Are fine needle aspirates worth the risk?
- Drips & Drops: Exploring Canine Ectopic Ureters Ultrasonographically
- Unveiling Congenital Kidney Disease in Dogs & Cats Through Ultrasound
- Challenging Ultrasound Case Discussion
There will be plenty of opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share their own experiences with the group.
Following the theory and under the supervision of highly experienced instructors, the 7 hours of practical sessions in small groups (max. 3-4 attendees per machine and animal) will provide the attendees with an ideal environment to train and improve their skills on how to recognize normal organs and create the best images for interpretation. Each attendee will rotate through the following live dog and cat stations:
- Kidney, Ureters, Bladder & Urethra – Female Dog
- Kidney, Ureters, Bladder & Urethra – Male Dog
- Pancreas, Stomach & Duodenum
- Small & Large Intestine
- The Feline Abdomen
- Free Abdominal Scan Session
The course fee includes lunches, coffee/tea breaks, a wine & cheese reception, extensive electronic course note and a RACE certificate of attendance. The course fee also includes transportation from Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando-South Lake Buena Vista hotel to the clinic each day and to the Orlando International Airport on Day 2. Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.
