PANEL DISCUSSION DESCRIPTION
Although conjunctivitis is one of the most common clinical problems seen in cats worldwide, this condition continues to present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for general practitioners and specialists alike. Navigating the aetiology of feline conjunctivitis can often be a complicated and frustrating process for both the cat owner and the veterinarian. Our panel of world-leading experts will share how they attempt to work out the aetiology of, and treatment course for, both acute and chronic inflammation of this vulnerable mucous membrane in their feline patients. Evidence-based, up-to-date information on diagnostic and medical advances will be presented and details debated. Join us for what promises to be a fascinating enlightening panel discussion. Questions and comments from attendees will be welcomed.
Dr Demos has worked in various aspects of feline medicine in clinics around the globe. She graduated from veterinary school in Western Australia where she also spent time in feline infectious disease research, then completed her feline residency in the US.
Currently, she practices and lectures in various countries including the UK and the EU. She has a particular interest in teaching feline medicine, as well as infectious diseases.
Dr. Jessica Meekins is originally from Louisville, Kentucky. She received her DVM degree from The Ohio State University after obtaining a BS in biology from a small private college in her hometown. She completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at VCA Veterinary Care Referral Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico before finishing a residency in comparative ophthalmology at Purdue University. Dr. Meekins joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 2012.
Dr. Sebbag obtained his Veterinary Medical Degree from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (France). He then completed a rotating internship at Kansas State University before pursuing a residency in Comparative Ophthalmology at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Sebbag currently holds a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (Ophthalmology service) at Iowa State University, where he completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences focused on pharmacology and ocular disease models. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO), and his clinical and research interests include ocular surface diseases, tear film biology and innovations in drug delivery to the eye.
More InfoAfter graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada, Dr. Michelle Willis completed a small animal internship at Michigan State University, residency training in Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Georgia, and was board certified by the ACVO in 1998. She has been practicing veterinary ophthalmology for almost 3 decades, and for the past 11 years, has worked exclusively with cats in the Metro West area of Boston.
The cat has been a long-term personal and professional passion for Dr. Willis, from their behavior, unique set of ocular conditions, and special relationship with their owners. She currently oversees an ophthalmology service within a feline-only practice, providing the cat owner with the option to pursue specialty eye care for their pet in as calm and stress-free an environment as possible. In addition, she provides multiple local feline rescue groups with ophthalmology care. While she enjoys all aspects of feline ophthalmology, ocular surface disease, uveitis and corneal and eyelid surgery are of special interest. Dr. Willis is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, a certified Cat-Friendly Veterinarian, and promotes the Fear-free philosophy in her daily practice. She frequently welcomes veterinary students to shadow her in clinics. Since sending her son off to college earlier this year, Dr. Willis has committed to more actively sharing her professional experiences as a feline-only ophthalmologist with her local veterinary community and her specialist colleagues.
Dr. Willis resides in Arlington, Massachusetts with her husband, two-one eyed cats and an athletic Border Collie. She enjoys various outdoor activities and home improvement projects.
