Helen has always had a keen interest in saddlery having ridden from a young age. At the age of five she watched a Master Saddler at work and decided this was the profession for her to pursue. She recognised the need for a holistic approach so after leaving school she completed an Equine Business Management Course at Berkshire College of Agriculture gaining GNVQ and BHS qualifications. She followed this with two years gaining equestrian industry experience at an International Dressage and Eventing Training Centre, in Suffolk. Her saddlery career began in 1998 at Cordwainers College, with the completion of a HND in Saddlery Technology. A further four years were spent at Pointings Saddlery in Bath, undertaking an apprenticeship. In 2004 Helen set up HR Saddlery in Wales, offering a full range of services from bespoke bridlework to saddle and bridle fitting. Helen has a passion for passing her knowledge on and to educate the public and raise the standard of horse welfare. She is a lecturer and assessor for both the SMS Saddle Fitting and Bridle Fitting Qualifications and recently took on the role of Course Leader for the SMS Saddle Fitting Qualification. Helen currently serves on the SMS Executive Committee and was President 2021-2022. Helen is a keen rider and currently owns two competition horses. As well as regularly competing in Eventing, Dressage and Show Jumping both locally and nationally; she enjoys nothing more than a ride through the woods and a gallop along the local beach.
