Dr. Hirsch is a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, he completed an internship at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in California and then returned to Virginia working as an ambulatory veterinarian. He later completed a surgical/medical fellowship at Oregon State and a large animal surgical residency at UC Davis.

Dr. Hirsch is board certified in Large Animal Surgery from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  He worked as staff surgeon at several equine referral practices in California and Virginia.  He is currently completing a comparative ophthalmology residency at the Animal Eye Care of Richmond.
