Professor Melody de Laat leads a research team that investigates key problems in Animal Health. A clinical and research veterinarian she specialises in equine metabolic disease, laminitis and novel drug development. She is based at Queensland University of Technology where she combines research with teaching and being Deputy Chair of the University Animal Ethics Committee and an Academic Lead in Diversity and Inclusion. Professor de Laat is the Scientific Editor for the Equine and Pharmacology disciplines at The Veterinary Journal.
Professor de Laat is also a member and Past President of the Pharmacology chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and a member of the Global Equine Endocrinology group. Her research interests encompass disorders of metabolism and nutrition, endocrine dysfunction, equine lameness, incretin biology, animal welfare and veterinary pharmacology.
