In 1979 Prof. Röcken began his studies of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, finishing with a PhD on ‘Bovine Elastin a heterologous Transplant’ in 1987. In 1989 he became nationally certified for Equine Medicine and as a Specialist for Surgery. Following this, Prof. Röcken has been working at the Justus-Liebeig University-Giessen in Germany in the Equine Surgery department since 1998

In 2012 he gained the position as the Head of Equine Section of German Veterinary Medical Society. Since 2016 he has the Professorship and Head of Department of Equine Surgery, Orthopaedics and Teaching Forge at the Equine Clinic of the Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen in Germany. Since 2021, he has also been the Executive Director of the Veterinary Clinics.
