Sandra Kurras is an accomplished veterinarian specializing in equine sport horse medicine, qualified from the University of Vienna, Austria.

Her career in veterinary medicine started as a veterinary technician, where she gained extensive experience in various clinics, including both equine and small animal practices. Following her education, she held significant research roles at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria, where she worked as a research assistant in equine surgery and in the ICU for small animals. Sandra also completed a rotating internship at Tierklinik Lüsche in Bakum, Germany, before expanding her professional journey.

Sandra's diverse externships include experiences in the USA, Switzerland, and Dubai, where she honed her skills in equine orthopedics and surgery. She has been working as an assistant veterinarian at Tierklinik Lüsche since September 2022. Currently, she serves as the U25 Team Veterinarian for Dressage at the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports (DOKR) since January 2024.

Additionally, she is currently writing her doctoral thesis on objective gait analysis, further contributing to her expertise in equine biomechanics, and is actively involved in the FN Innovation Group, focusing on the development of a robust 3D horse skeleton recognition system using simple smartphone images. Sandra has published several scientific articles, including topics on orthobiological therapies for joint issues and the analysis of horse posture to assess emotional states. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. She became a certified chiropractor and member of the Equine Gait Analysis Specialist Group in 2025.

Residing in Lower Saxony, Germany, Sandra has been married since 2017 and enjoys spending her free time with her two dogs while passionately contributing to the field of equine medicine.
