Tim was brought up in Aberdeen and graduated from the University of Glasgow. He was subsequently awarded a master`s degree for work carried out in its surgery department. He received a FRCVS for work carried out at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. In 1982 he joined the Newmarket private equine practice of Dr Peter Rossdale, becoming a full partner in 1984. Since then he has been responsible for developing the surgery department and is now senior surgeon.
His interests are in general and minimally invasive equine surgery and his caseload divided equally between orthopaedic and soft tissue patients. He is currently senior and managing partner of Rossdales LLP. He received the inaugural Centenary Award and the Chiron Award of the BVA and the Richard Hartley Clinical Prize of the BEVA. He gave the sixth Saki Patsaama lecture in Finland in 1987. He has lectured around the world on a variety of equine surgical topics. He has published papers on a variety of topics and contributed to several textbooks.
He was made an honorary professor of the Veterinary School at the University of Glasgow and an associate lecturer of the Veterinary School at the University of Cambridge. He was President of the BEVA in 2000, and is an honorary member of the association; President of the BVA in 2003/4; and President of the WEVA between 2009 and 2011. Tim is a Diplomate of the ECVS and a member of its board of regents and the EBVS. He is a trustee and Vice-Chairman of SPANA. Tim is also an honorary member of the BVNA and the BAEDT.
Tim’s interests outside of work include playing the guitar and golf.
