Verena qualified from the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1982 and went on to work in mixed practice until 1984 when she began her PhD at the Institute of Veterinary Physiology, University of Zurich. She worked as an assistant in the university’s Veterinary Hospital between 1985-1987. After completing her PhD, Verena moved to England where she spent a year as a Senior Research Assistant at the T.B.A. Equine Fertility Unit in Cambridge, followed by four years as a Graduate Student in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge University. In 1992, Verena became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Equine Medicine at the University of Zurich. During this time, she was also a Visiting Research Fellow for the Department of Herd Health of Reproduction at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. Following this, Verena undertook various teaching positions at the University of Zurich and care of horses for the Hospital Clinic. She is a board member of the Swiss Association of Equine Medicine (SVPM) and of Pferdesamariter-Vereinigung (the Horses Samaritan Association) and also a veterinary specialist FVH for horses. Verena has published a number of articles in various veterinary journals. She currently works as a specialist horse vet at Tierklinik Leimental in Biel-Benken, Switzerland.
