                COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course has been designed to equip the equine practitioners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to make the most of their abilities and ultrasound machine, in the diagnosis and treatment of frequently encountered equine musculoskeletal conditions affecting the front- and hindlimbs. This course is suitable for all vets aiming to improve their knowledge and skills in this area, as the practical sessions will be adapted to the attendees’ skill levels.
The course will run over two days, with a focus on highly illustrated lectures which will be systematically approached:
- How to get the most out of your ultrasound machine
- Ultrasonographic Anatomy and Conditions of the Heel & Pastern
- Transcuneal/Frog Ultrasound
- Digital Flexor Tendon Sheath & Annular Ligament
- Fetlock Joint Region
- Flexor Tendons & Check Ligaments
- Suspensory Ligament – Frontlimb vs. Hindlimb
- Elbow & Shoulder Joint
- Tarsus & Tarsal Sheath
- Stifle Joint Region
- Hip Joint & Pelvis
The speakers will be sharing invaluable tips/tricks and pearls of wisdom with the attendees during the 7 hours of practical sessions in small groups (2 – 4 vets per ultrasound machine) on live horses. Each attendee will be able to extensively hone his/her practical skills at the following practical stations:
- Machine Set-Up
- Ultrasound of the Frog, Heel & Pastern
- Digital Flexor Tendon Sheath & Fetlock Region
- Flexor Tendons & Check Ligaments
- Suspensory Ligament – Frontlimb vs. Hindlimb
- Tarsus & Tarsal Sheath
- Stifle Joint Region
The course fee includes hot lunches, coffee/tea breaks, the wine & cheese reception, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Practical Sessions). Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.
Dr. Gibson is a clinical assistant professor of veterinary radiology at Texas A&M University with research and clinical interest in equine musculoskeletal imaging and comparative imaging in both large and small animal species. Prior to completing radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Gibson completed a rotating equine internship with a heavy surgical, sports medicine, and imaging caseload at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma then went on to complete a large animal ultrasound and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center. She enjoys teaching and looks forward to her new role as faculty at Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine as well as participating as an instructor in imaging-related continuing education courses. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to live music, and cooking as well as trying new restaurants and cuisines.

DIRECTIONS
From I-405 Northbound: Take Exit 23, Hwy 522 East, toward Monroe. Go 3 miles, exit to Hwy 9 toward Snohomish/Arlington. Go north on Hwy 9 approximately 10 miles. Take the Snohomish exit immediately after the Snohomish River bridge. Turn right at the end of the exit onto 2nd Street. Continue straight through 4 lights. Go past the clinic and turn right onto 115th Avenue SE and take the first driveway on the right.
From I-5 at Everett: Take Exit 194, Hwy 2 East, toward Snohomish. Go approximately 8 miles. Take the 88th Street SE exit. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right, go 0.3 miles downhill and then left onto 115th Avenue SE where the road curves. Take the first driveway on the right.
From Hwy 2/Monroe: Take the 88th St. SE exit. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left, go 0.3 miles downhill and then left onto 115th Avenue SE where the road curves. Take the first driveway on the right.
